Literature Text

Things that Vash may have pondered, at least part of the time, during all the many years when he wandered alone.

Penance

So far from home my steps have trod
These many, weary, miles abroad
My friends are safest when I’m gone
And so I wander, all alone

Away from home, hearts are so cool
I’m oft compelled to play the fool
If through this farce, a life is saved
I count it worth the price I’ve paid

Cold hearts, and dry, are all around
So little peace and love I’ve found!
It hurts to see them waste their lives
On strife and hate, like Millions Knives

Though he did cause the ships to fall
I must take some blame for the pall
That’s fallen on their hearts and minds
If I gave more, they’d be less blind

I grieve for children growing here
They should not need to live in fear
My hands still work, I will atone
Till then, my life is not my own

Another’s sorrow I will ease
And then I’ll fall down on my knees
To pray for their souls, and for mine
That grace upon us all will shine

O God, You made both night and day
And You, alone, can choose or say
If we’ll be judged, or else forgiv’n
Have mercy on us, Your children

I do not own Trigun / Vash: he belongs to the amazing Mr. Yasuhiro Nightow.
"Vash the Stampede" character belongs to the amazingly talented Mr. Yasuhiro Nightow.

In the Trigun manga and anime, Vash spends several decades -- almost a century -- wandering the desert alone. This poem contains some of the things that I imagine he might have pondered, during those times of wandering.

All of my Trigun poetry can be found in my gallery's "Trigun Fanfiction Poetry" folder, if anyone is interested in reading more of these poems. :)

If anyone's curious, my other Trigun Fanfiction (most isn't re-posted at DA) can be found through my profile at fanfiction.net. :)
